Trinidad and Tobago, as a signatory to the Paris Agreement and as a member of the Small Island Developing States, participated in the 24th session of the Conference of the Parties  to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change, held in Katowice, Poland 2-14 December, 2018.
Professor Andrew Jupiter, representing The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, noted that more than 80% of overall carbon emissions are from industrial consumption and reported that the main concerns of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) in Trinidad and Tobago are costs, leakage of injected CO2 and public perception of unknown safety risks. In his presentation Professor Jupiter highlighted the impact of climate change in the Caribbean such as the devastating hurricanes in the Caribbean, higher rainfall and flooding in Trinidad and Tobago which leads to  the weakening of national food security and infrastructure.
